The Super Mario Bros. Movie was directed by Michael Jelenic & Aaron Horvath. Featuring an elite voice cast starring Chris Pratt (Mario) and Charlie Day (Luigi). Additionally, there’s Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Seth Rogan (Donkey Kong), and Keegan-Michael (Toad).
Amidst all this craziness, a new website called Super Mario Bros Plumbing has also been launched. Open for real business, this is the real-life version of the classic video game. The Super Mario Bros. Movie got a score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.4 points on IMDB. Its audience rating summary got 4.7 stars out of 5, which is pretty impressive. As for the reviews, there were both positive and negative ones.
Positives
If you’re looking for a light-hearted family movie, then this is it. Very nostalgic and filled with easter eggs, Super Mario Bros. Movie is definitely an enjoyable movie for adults and kids alike.
“I didn’t know what to expect”, one wrote. “But when I went to see it earlier today, it was ….. everything!”, she gushed.
The filmmakers have meticulously inserted many references to the old video game in the movie. Things like Mario’s unexplained gloves are given meaning here (as a marketing ploy). It’s really interesting to learn those tidbits of information about our beloved characters. Animation also is praised by everyone because of how advanced it is. With colorful scenes and great voice acting, the movie is high in quality. To top it off, the movie is boasting some great music tracks that have left the viewers impressed.
One fan took to the internet and wrote, “The Super Mario Bros Movie may be one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a cinema as a Mario fan and an animation fan”.So if you’ve been that kid who used to play Mario Kart every day, this movie is definitely worth a watch.
Negatives
Surprisingly, the Super Mario Bros. Movie was not welcomed with the same positivity as the popular Nintendo game. The fans had great expectations for the movie. But unfortunately, those were met with disappointment.
Most of the criticism is pointed against its messy plot. It starts out fine, with Mario and Luigi trying to earn some coins for their business, Super Mario Bros Plumbing.
But as the story develops, the directors start to force as many references to the original video game. This results in a bunch of prolonged scenes that serve no value to the plot. It’s painfully clear that it’s made to appeal only to the devoted fans.
One person said, “It is when all is said and done, intensely mediocre”. While another fan wrote, ” The whole package is a deranged mishmash of over-stimulating elements”.
The Super Mario Bros the movie has a significant lack of emotional scenes, jokes, and anything that’s supposed to keep the audience engaged in. Seems like the movie makers were so sure of its strong fan base, that they didn’t bother putting the work in.
How to Watch the Super Mario Bros. Movie?
Would’ve been great if we could watch this great movie at home. But at the moment it’s not possible. Because you cannot find Super Mario Bros. Movie online free. But the good news is, the movie is all over theaters.
Just go to your local movie theater and purchase a ticket, and that’s all. However, it’s completely possible that we’ll be able to stream it in no time.
Because this movie was distributed by Universal Pictures, the same company that released hits like ‘Megan’ and ‘Knock at the Cabin’. Those movies were made available on Peacock, an NBC streaming platform. So it’s highly possible that Super Mario Bros. Movie stream options will be available too.
As for the release date, we’re yet to find out. Usually, it takes around three months for a movie to take off from the theater to a streaming platform. But for the movies ‘Megan’ and ‘Knock at the Cabin’, it only took a month. So we expect it to be faster.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Soundtrack
The new Super Mario Bros. Movie has done a great job in choosing music. It features reworks of the classic Mario soundtracks as well as licensed ones.
Brian Tyler, who worked on Fast & Furious and Iron Man 3, is the composer of the score. He collaborated with Koji Kondo, the composer of Mario, to add the classics from the game to the movie.

Featured Songs
Among the featured songs, there are two original Nintendo tracks. The first one is the notorious “DK Rap ” of Donkey Kong 64, which is played when Donkey Kong is introduced. The second is “Fury Bowser ” of Super Mario 3D World + Bower’s Fury.
Probably the most well-known, “Peaches”, was performed by Jack Black. “He (Jack Black) had added his own twist on it”. “We were blown away”, said Hovarth.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is hinting at a second part in its post-credit scenes. Actually, there are two post-credit scenes!
The first Super Mario Bros. Movie post-credit scene can be seen in the middle of the end credits. It’s a repeated scene of Bowser and Peach from the movie. In the second scene, you’ll see a new character being introduced. Who will most likely appear in the next movie? Other than this clue, there’s no confirmation on this.
